The Long Road Home
Ivarius the Large
Father of Darksun, Uncle to Drefin
Ivarius the Large was a bit of a minor blacksmith/mercenary. He was a very talented jalah player (almost as good as his brother), and excellent defender. It was said that he fought as ferociously as any jalah player ever had, and he led the Storm giant league in blocks and assists. Off the field he was not a very political person, although he was always very well-liked, as he was incredibly charismatic. Many of his teammates and friends came to him for advice about everything from romance to blocking stances. Though he did not always see eye to eye with tradition, he did right by his wife and his family and made sure they always had everything they needed. When he was younger he did not really see eye to eye with his father. Being the oldest Zed felt that Ivarius should have taken over the forge and become a master smith, but he wanted to travel and see the wide world. So as soon as he was old enough he set out from the giant lands, and there were many that thought he had just walked off into the mists. They would later learn that he spent a large portion of time out amongst the world, serving as a mercenary on caravan routes, where he met his wife. Though there is some debate as to who saved whom from the bandits that day, Ivarius and Vadoma met in the heat of pitch conflict when a supply caravan was attacked by a large armed force of humans. Many died that day, but Ivarius in the end grabbed up the beautiful dark skinned woman he fought feverishly next to and hurled them off the side of a craggy slope, only to land in the high branches of a tree and come crashing to the ground with a thud. Though the woman was unhurt Ivarius sustained some deep lacerations and a broken arm from the fall. The two found their way into a rocky outcropping, where the woman nursed him back to health, mending his wounds and setting his broken arm. The two were always a highly intense relationship, and the first few days were no exception. But somewhere between the offhanded remarks and rolling of the eyes of Vadoma, Ivarius managed to win her over, and when the two finally arrived back with her people (Travelers) Ivarius asked her father for her hand. As it turns out Vadoma was like a princess to the Traveler people. She represented the head of several family lines, and although it pained her; when she became laden with child she and Ivarius decided it was time to go back to giant society to raise the boy she knew that she would have. One time, Vadoma sat out under the stars one night and told Ivarius what their son would look like. She said that he would be a man that would make his father proud, and that anyone who looked upon him would most certainly see and feel Ivarius’ presence. When my Ivarius returned he came home to Cerine in her deathbed. Most importantly Ivarius always stood up for those who could not defend themselves. He dumbstruck some of his jalah rivals at times, because just as easily as he would barrel into their ribs to throw a block for his brother, he would turn around when the play was over an offer them a hand to their feet. This was not always met with appreciation, and some believe that is where he initially made an enemy of Arle Marahk Din, but that is only speculation. He died tragically when Darksun was young (in a jalah match). He was killed by Arle Marahk Din, the former Nimbus Clanhead, though the kill was considered legal by jalah rules and no action could be taken against him.
