The Long Road Home
Cerine the Stern
Grandmother of Drefin and Darksun, Cerine the Stern, was a home-maker and excellent cook. She kept the entire family happy and well-fed. Though under her tight watch there was not much room for nonsense. There were more than a few friends of Zed’s friends that were physically afraid of her. It was even said that she knew how to play jalah (even though women are not typically taught). But it’s hard to say how good she ever was. The only thing known is that if you ask Zed, he will tell you straight out that she was the jalah player in the family, and that’s where her boys got it from. Ivarius has told his son once that his mother is the one that tossed the brock around with them in their youth and helped to cultivate their interest in the sport. She also never missed a jalah game, and when Zed would have to travel to sell his metal works, that she and the family would go along, as long as the trip coincided with jalah matches. They never missed a grand jalah tournament, until the children had all moved out of the house, and age and senility prohibited travel for her. A lot of people have said that Ivarius and now Darksun look like her in many ways.
